~ A letter from the Community Outreach
Team regarding March/April 2009 ~
Thank you for requesting a donation from Healthy Living.
If you’ve received donations from us in the past,
then you know how hard we try to make people, organizations,
and groups happy and successful in their pursuits.
For years, we have kept to the same strategy: spread out
our giving to as many people, organizations, and groups
as possible that fit our guidelines. It has worked really
well, and at the same time we wanted to do MORE. With
the economy in its current state, we feel that many people
in our community need our help in new and more acute ways.
For March and April of this year, we are trying something
new. We have selected one group, Spectrum Youth Services,
and for these two months we will devote all our community
outreach financial resources to them. There is another
difference with this program; we will be having our own
staff volunteering their time at Spectrum in conjunction
with our financial support. The mission here is to get
more people (our staff) interested in and committed to
service work in our community, while helping an organization
that has a critical need. It’s a great opportunity
for our staff to get exposure to service, to giving back,
and to helping others. and it will truly make a difference
for Spectrum and the kids it serves. We are proud of our
new program and hope to see positive change both at Spectrum
and at Healthy Living, where many of our staff will be
inolved for the first time in volunteer work.
In May, we’ll be returning to our usual Community
Outreach format, so we encourage you to re-submit your
request for that month and beyond.
Thanks for your understanding. We look forward to working
together with you soon,
The Community Outreach Team
"We should give
as we would receive -
cheerfully, quickly, and without hesitation;
for there is no grace in a benefit
that sticks to the fingers."
- Lucius Annaeus Seneca
Our giving program is devoted to helping our community’s
local non-profit organizations ...groups that have small
budgets and big hearts. We love to work with motivated,
innovative groups who strive to make the world a better
place!
We stand by groups with values similar to our own. We’re
especially interested in environmental issues, building
a strong community, making health a priority, supporting
organic farming, and educating both adults and kids about
these things.
